Very nice technical monument with a laid out rest area. Easily accessible via secondary routes. Whoever heads for this point stands on a mountain, all Royal Saxon triangulation stations stand on hilltops.
Station No. 97 Marbachhöhe is a second order station of the triangular network of the Royal Saxon Triangulation. In the 19th century, the optical measuring devices were fixed on the monolith in order to locate other stations for surveying purposes. Most of these technical monuments are still preserved and as they all stand on hilltops they always offer a great view of Saxony as a destination.
From this station the stations of the 1st order No. 13 (Udohöhe), as well as the stations of the 2nd order No. 74 (Katzenberg), No. 95 (Bräunsdorf), No. 96 (Obergruna), No. 98 (Reichenbachhöhe) and No. 101 (weather altitude) targeted. The Saxon triangle network is considered a technical masterpiece of degree measurement, it was the most precise land survey in Europe in its time.
