The Seetor was part of Angermünde's medieval city fortifications. It was the smallest of the four city gates and provided access for citizens to the adjacent meadows and pastures, as well as to fish on Lake Münde to the north.
The Seetor is part of Angermünde's coat of arms. According to legend, the Margraves of Brandenburg were hunting in the area around Angermünde and drove a stag before them, which tried to save itself by jumping into Lake Münde. It crossed the lake and the Seetor and was nevertheless killed by a hunter.
