At the behest of the Pomeranian Duke Ernst Ludwig, the abbey of the secular Pudagla monastery was expanded into a widow's residence for his mother, Duchess Maria of Saxony, in the second half of the 16th century. The administration of the ducal office of Pudagla was also located in the castle. After the Peace of Westphalia, the office became royal Swedish property and, after Prussia took over the island of Usedom, it became the property of the Prussian crown.

The building is a rather simple, two-story plastered building with twelve axes and a round bay window. The large Neufeldr coat of arms of Pomerania is located on the main portal. There has been a restaurant in the castle since GDR times. Concerts, exhibitions and culinary events also take place here.
