Trinity Chapel Vaihingerhof The chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity is located roughly in the center of the hamlet of Vaihingerhof. The locals affectionately refer to it as “Käppele”, although the total of 70 seats and the floor area of 8m x 12m would also justify the name “Kirchle”. This church was built from donations in 1888 and to this day the chapel is a central place for silent and communal prayer for the Vaihingerhof.
Vaihingerhof is located northeast of Rottweil on the Kleiner Heuberg, with the communities of Zimmern unter der Burg, Schömberg and Dietingen bordering it. The Vaihingerhof district belongs to Rottweil's Neukirch town. The hamlet was originally its own Allemanian village and was first mentioned in documents in 1262 as Vogingen, when the knights Albert and Volkard von Suntheim donated their farm to the Rottenmünster monastery. The Vaihingerhof was completely owned by the Rottenmünster monastery from 1471 to 1802; after secularization, the farm became a state domain of Württemberg. The Vaihingerhof has belonged to Neukirch since 1831; the purchase price was 50,000 guilders. The Sebastian Chapel was built in 1888. To this day, the Gasthaus zur Linde is a characteristic village inn in a prominent building opposite the historic sheepfold.
The historic sheep house was built around 1700. More than 500 sheep were housed there during cold winters. In the 1970s, the stable was in danger of falling apart; a signature campaign and private initiatives fought to preserve the monument. At the request of the then Mayor of Rottweil, Dr. Regelmann, the Freiburg Monument Office was persuaded to provide funds for the preservation of the sheep house. Finally, the AWO took over the former sheepfold on a leasehold basis and turned it into a youth leisure center suitable for disabled people.
