Donglin Temple is a famous temple in Zhujing Town, Jinshan District of Shanghai - and probably unlike most temples you will find in this area. If I recall correctly, it was built in 1308 during the Yuan Dynasty.
Its main gate is about 20m wide and 15m in height and is topped with marble statues and five golden lotus flowers. The main building leans onto an artificial hill, that from a distance looks like a giant Buddha.
Over its 700 years it been abandoned, damaged and rebuilt repeatedly. It was re-opened in 2007 after a major reconstruction.
