The Botanical Garden of Heinrich Heine University is located in the south of the city on Himmelgeister Rheinbogen. As a scientific institution, it not only serves research and teaching, but also opens its doors to visitors throughout the year, offering a diverse program of events with exhibitions, expert guides and lectures.

The Botanical Garden was founded in 1974. The focus is on plants of temperate climates. The impressive centerpiece of the open-air site is an 18-meter-high, filigree dome - a 1,000-square-meter cold-house housing around 400 plant species from areas with warm, dry summers and rainy winters. In addition to the characteristic vegetation of the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands, plants of almost all continents are shown: Australia, Asia, Africa and America.

A tour through the field leads around a 3.5 ha large wildflower meadow, u. a. Summer flowerbeds and tub gardens are arranged. In the center of the meadow, a beekeeper operates his beehives. Farmers and pharmacies invite you to linger, fragrance and touch garden to join in.

This area also houses the "Green Classroom". Here the interested visitor is given an overview of the natural relationship of flowering plants. The tour of the alpine limestone and granite rocks with adjacent alpine forests finally completes the tour through the botanical garden.

When the Heinrich Heine University of Düsseldorf was founded in 1965, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stubbe appointed to the chair of botany. He sat down successfully for the establishment of a botanical garden. After the farm buildings had been built in 1974, the greenhouse dome was opened in 1976. Only after the design of the 8-acre outdoor area. In 1979, the entire garden was finally opened to the public.
