The Hünenburg, which Prof. Schuchhardt called a "splendid example of Franconian castle building", is located about 10 minutes east of Oesdorf on the ridge of the Oesberg (Königsberg) projecting to the north-west. The small fortification is not mentioned anywhere. Up until the 20th century it was believed that an important structure once stood here, perhaps a watchtower or something similar.
In 1910, the rubble was uncovered by the historically interested pensioner Gehrs, Pyrmont, and by Prof. O. Weerth, Detmold, at the instigation of the museum association with the permission of the Princely Domain Chamber, and the hill, which appeared rounded and blunt, became a stone one Residential tower peeled out, 9 m long and wide, with corner blocks and a stone staircase inside.
There is a window opening on the northwest side. The complex was surrounded by a rampart and ditch fortification, which extended to the west, while on the east side, which was most endangered, was close to the edge of the hill.
