The Marian monument was erected in honor of the royal mother Marie of Bavaria (mother of King Ludwig II of Bavaria). This was her favorite place on the Alpsee. From here, away from the mass tourism of Hohenschwangau, you have a wonderful view of the lake.
The following inscription can be found on the monument:
In grateful memory of HER MAIESTÆT the QUEEN MOTHER MARIE of BAVARIA by I. v. S.

There are three benches at the Marienmonument. The ideal place for a snack with a great view over the lake. Nice encounter for everyone who likes waterfowl like me.

The Alpsee (about 62m deep) near Hohenschwangau impresses with its blue clear water. In addition to an outdoor pool and the resident boat rental, the lake offers a light Alpine circular walk with a length of about 6km! The hiking trail is "not suitable for wheelchairs, strollers or bicycles"! It always goes back over rough stones, big roots and small bridges with grid floor, mountain up and down! The view is breathtaking and you get a glimpse of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwanstein here and there!
