Not only is the Ottilien Chapel itself beautifully visible from below halfway up the Domberg hill: from this point on the hill there is also a very beautiful view down onto the city and the Ringberg.

If you are in Suhl, then of course you have to go up to Ottilie!
You have a great view of almost all of Suhl and if you are lucky, peace and quiet.

The climb is easy to manage - a path leads up with a manageable climb.

A quiet, historic place with fantastic panoramic views over Suhl and the Thuringian Forest. The small chapel sits enthroned on a rocky outcrop on the cathedral hill, and its frescoes tell the tragic Ottilie legend.

The Ottilien chapel is certainly one of Suhl's landmarks. From the city it is visible from afar on the slope of Toompea. From the top you have a wonderful view of Suhl, the Ringberg, the Döllberg and the wide countryside.

After a short walk from the city center in Suhl, you can reach the Ottilien Chapel in just a few minutes.
The chapel is the third to find its home up here on the cathedral hill.
According to legend, a long time ago there was a blind Ottilie, the daughter of pagan parents, who was able to see again at the age of 12 through baptism. Since then, the divinely blessed child has been considered a saint.
The miners who mined ore here on the cathedral hill were also often affected by eye diseases.

In addition to the Döllberg area, the area between Domberg and Sauerberg was the most important ore area in Suhl.
At eleven stations you can learn a lot of interesting facts about the history of mining in Suhl, for example about the Friedrichschacht, the Suhler Berglöcher or the publisher Joseph Meyer and his mine at Linsenhof.
The Domberg mining hiking trail introduces hikers to the mining history of the weapons town of Suhl.
On the just under 3 kilometer long trail, you can learn about the centuries-long history of iron ore mining in the Thuringian town.
The remains of pits, shafts and spoil heaps are still clearly visible today, and several tunnel entrances have been restored.
With a little imagination you can imagine the hard work of the miners in past centuries.
The trail in the light beech forest also offers views of the Thuringian Forest and the town of Suhl.
