Impossible to miss this emblematic monument which stands on your right: the Atomium. Erected on the occasion of the 1958 Universal Exhibition organized on the Heysel Plateau, the Atomium consists of nine spheres 18 meters in diameter for a total height of 102 meters and represents an iron crystal enlarged 165 billion times. The different balls are accessible to the public and retrace the history of the monument and Expo 58. The last ball houses a panoramic restaurant.

Doomed to disappear at the end of the exhibition, the Atomium will be saved by its popularity to become this important international symbol of the city of Brussels but also of Belgium.

The iconic Atomium in Brussels was originally built as a temporary display during the 1958 World's Fair. However, it was so popular that the city decided to keep the structure. Today it offers incredible views, and houses a wealth of history and culture in its exhibition spaces.

The recently renovated monument, dating back to the 1958 World's Fair, deserves a detour. It's without a doubt the most recognizable landmark that Brussels offers, and the rest of the site it's built on (Heysel Plateau) is worth a visit as well. All the way at the top is the Centenary Palace, that was constructed for the 1935 World's Fair, and is still in use today.

The Atonium symbolizes an iron crystal and was built for Expo 58.
Worth a visit but it can be quite busy at certain times.
in the top sphere you can see a beautiful panorama over Brussels and the surrounding area.
In good weather you can even see Antwerp.

Very impressive building, which was built for the Expo in 1958, is over 100 meters high and represents a model of the element of iron consisting of nine atoms. The top sphere has an all-round view and a panoramic restaurant. The others have various exhibitions on the creation of the landmark and historical facts. Partly elevator, partly stairs, partly escalator. I recommend going in the afternoon because you don't have to queue. Admission costs 15 euros or 25% discount for Brussels Card holders, so you only pay 11.25. It is open daily between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

There's a bit of a climb up to the old (1935) World's Fair buildings.
