The Posthof was built in 1725 according to plans by Franz Christoph Nagel. After the post office moved to Marienplatz, the building was converted into an inn ("Preußischer Hof", later "Kaiserhof"). Today, the Catholic Bonifatiuswerk is housed in the building, which was rebuilt after almost complete destruction during the war.

Around 1725, the postmaster Bernhard Konrad Meyer had the post office built by the baroque master builder Franz Christoph Nagel am Kamp. He set up the traveling mail, which was responsible for the transport of people and general cargo. The lines of the Dutch Post (via Münster to Amsterdam), the Kassel-Leipzig-Frankfurter Post, the Hanover-Hamburger Post and the Hildesheim Post started at the Posthof. There were two gates to the left and right of the main building to speed up postal traffic.

When the merchant Moritz Daltrop took over the post office in 1764 and moved it to Marienplatz, the Posthof became the “Preußischer Hof” inn (from 1910 “Kaiserhof”). 1918 years later the building was acquired by the Bonifatius printers.
