In 1901, the brilliant radio pioneer Marconi succeeded in establishing a radio connection over 180 miles to the Isle of Wight, thereby proving that radio waves could reach beyond the horizon. During the experiments he stayed at the beautiful Houston Bay Hotel, which still exists today.
