The eight-kilometer-long narrow-gauge railway branch line from Bebitz to Alsleben, to which this impressive Saale bridge belongs, has been permanently closed since 1995. The last passenger train ran here in 1966. The line was opened to Beesenlaublingen in 1905 and was then extended to Alsleben from 1906. The construction of the Saale bridge, which was built as a steel lattice structure, proved to be the greatest challenge. This last section was put into operation on May 13, 1908. Although the Alsleben station was prepared for a possible extension of the railway line, all attempts to extend it failed. Only the sugar factory and the mill were provided with factory connections.

The railway bridge spans the Saale in Alsleben. The Bebitz–Alsleben railway line is now a disused railway line. The approx. 8 km branch line built as a small railway connected Bebitz with Alsleben on the Könnern–Baalberge railway line. Passenger traffic on the route, which was nationalized in 1949, was discontinued in 1966 and completely closed in 1995. A few remains of the rails can still be discovered.
