A journey back to the time of the Romans: The imposing city gate represents the entrance to the Archaeological Open-Air Museum in Xanten, the largest of its kind in Germany. On the site you can experience the Roman culture up close. The city gate is a reconstruction of a Roman gate and brings history to life.

There, between the foundations, one of the main canals ran, which led the waste water from the city sewage system into the city moat. A thirty-meter-long subterranean section of this brick canal has been reconstructed today. Children (or adults who duck their heads) can go underground here on a guided tour and venture out to the exit at the far end. ..."
