Finžgar's chapel
It was built by the theologians of the Archdiocese of Ljubljana, who went to Jasenje on vacation and for this purpose built a small log cabin on rented land in 1924. They had to go to the valley for Mass, so in 1926 a chapel was built in Jasenje, dedicated to the Snowy Mary. During the war (autumn 1942), the Germans burned down all the shepherds' homes in Jasenje, leaving the haylofts and the chapel, which the locals opened before the burning so that it could be seen that it was a church building. After the war, Fran Saleški Finžgar begged the authorities to build a residential building next to the chapel. Thus, the tradition of priests taking a holiday by celebrating mass continued. Locals were very involved in this tradition and came from the valley to Jasenje every day during Mass. Four more priests came with Finžgar, who assumed the role of master of the chapel one after the other, came on vacation in August, climbed the surrounding peaks and celebrated mass for the locals. The last of this group was Dr. Janez Oražem, who celebrated mass for the last time in 1993. Dr. Janez Gril, who succeeded this cooperative mission after Oražma's death (1994). He continues the tradition of his predecessors, visits nearby peaks, performs mass for the locals and spends his vacation. The mass, which takes place every year from August 5 to Veliki Šmarno on August 15, is also attended by visitors to the Martulj Waterfalls.
Monument to the mountain climbers
In 2007, the PD Forest Martuljek followed the initiative of the PZS to erect memorials for those injured in the mountains at specific locations and no longer single plaques scattered everywhere on rocks and paths, along which all too often extinguished, half-burnt candles. In memory of all the locals who had accidents in the mountains and all the others who had accidents in Špik's group, a memorial was erected in Asenje next to Finžgar's chapel.
