    It had been the western entrance gate to the city since Roman times and was rebuilt between 1748 and 1753 by Michel Voisin under the reign of Ludwig.

          Porte Dijeaux is a city gate in Bordeaux in the French department of Gironde.
          It is a listed building.
          Porte Dijeaux is located at the western end of the Decumanus, formed by the alignment of Porte-Dijeaux and Saint-Rémi streets. It leads to Place Gambetta

          Porte Dijeaux is also known as Porte Dauphine (under Louis XIV).

          His name is historically attested in the unstable forms: de Giu, Dijeu, Dijeus, Digaus 2 etc.

          There are two hypotheses about the etymology of the word "Dijeaux":
          According to Abbé Baurein, its name derives from porta deus Judias, "Gate of the Jews" in Gascony, because in the Middle Ages it associated the city with the Jewish quarter of Mount Judaïque 3.
          According to Camille Jullian, the origin of the name is linked to the Temple of Jupiter that stood on this site in the Gallo-Roman period. The door should have been called Porta Jovis in Latin, and its current name comes from the corruption of the expression Jòu, meaning "of Jupiter" in Gascony, the traditional language of Bordeaux. The prefix comes from the paronymic appeal of the Gascon word dijàus, meaning Thursday (the day of Jupiter).

                    Porte Dijeaux

                    A historic monument since 1921, the Dijeaux gate borders Place Gambetta in Bordeaux. It has a classical architecture, was built from 1748 to 1753 in Frontenac stone and was completely renovated in 2022. Source: bordeaux.fr/l58357/porte-dijeaux
