This bridge was given the name Ingendaelerbrökske as you can see on the sign on the bridge of the local history association. It gives you access to the nature reserve Ingendael over the Geul.

The nature reserve changes from a plateau forest into a slope forest that ends at the Geul. Behind this lie damp chalk grasslands. In the plateau forest lies the Meertensgroeve, a former open marl quarry. The deep, sheltered crater is now a protected natural monument and a herd of goats graze there.

Wild boars forage for food in the slope forest. In the marshy chalk grassland the rarest plant and animal species get the chance to survive.

And with this bridge you get there. At this time of year there is wild garlic and you will also find a poem by Rutger Kopland.

The Geul (Limburgish Gäöl, German: Göhl, French: Gueule, old names: Gullo (922), Guel and Goel (15th century) and Gule) is a river that rises with several sources in the municipality of Raeren in Belgium at the Zyklopensteine on the German border, near the town of Lichtenbusch. It leaves Belgium at Sippenaeken and enters the Netherlands at Cottessen. At the hamlet of Voulwames above Itteren it flows into the Maas. The average discharge of the Geul is approximately 4 m3/s.

The Geul is 58 kilometres long and the total drop is approximately 250 metres. Former canals have been or are being closed since the beginning of the 21st century, so that the river can follow its old course and meander naturally through the South Limburg landscape again. The Geul is fed by a large number of tributaries in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The board of our association has taken the initiative to provide the two Geul bridges in Ingendael with names and nameplates, namely the "Ingendaelerbrökske" and
the "Kloasterbrökske."
During a walk on Sunday afternoon, January 15, 2006, the nameplates were officially unveiled by Mrs. Nicole Cordewener, manager of the Southern region of Het Limburgs Landschap, and Fons Heijnens of the local history association.
Mr. J. Gootzen, geographer, explained the local geography and geology during the walk.
