Goshka Macuga’s Family Module, created for Beaufort 21 in Nieuwpoort, is a monumental sculpture that questions classic family values and focuses on inclusion and diversity. Inspired by Oscar Bony’s La Familia Obrera, Macuga exhibits three figures on a high pedestal as a critical reflection on societal norms, with a nod to the political context in Poland. In Nieuwpoort, the work gains extra meaning by referring to women accused of witchcraft in the 17th century, powerfully connecting the past and the present.

In 1968 the Argentine artist Oscar Bony had a family pose as a 'living sculpture' on a pedestal. The performance entitled La Familia Obrero (the working-class family) earned the family an amount that exceeded their monthly social security allowance. In the spirit of May '68, Bony criticized the double standards of a government that saw the family as the cornerstone of society, but left the poor working class out in the cold.
