Puurs train station is not only a stopping point for trains, but pedestrians can also safely cross over to the other side of the tracks via the tunnel to the platforms. There is a spacious parking lot at the station that you can use on weekends to park your car if you want to take a walk in the area.

The Puurs station was opened on 28 July 1870 in Puurs together with the Mechelen - Bornem section by the Mechelen - Terneuzen (MT) company on railway line 54.
On 22 July 1880 it was connected to the Dendermonde station via railway line 52 and on 8 August 1881 on the same line to the Boom station. In 1948 the station was taken over by the NMBS.
In May 1982 the section of line 52 between Dendermonde and Puurs was closed and shortly afterwards taken over by the Belgian Friends of the Steam Locomotive (BVS) to open a tourist steam railway line Dendermonde-Puurs. The small BVS station is located a few metres next to the station where the line to Dendermonde branched off. On 15 October 2007, a fire broke out in the signal box located in the station due to a short circuit: During an attempted theft of copper wire along the line, an earth cable came into contact with a power cable. The damage was considerable and train traffic on both railway lines was disrupted for several days.
Since 1 March 2024, the ticket offices of this station have only been open during the week between 7:15 and 10:30.
