The environment of the A-31 highway was a desolate desert from the outskirts of Arica. In the first hundred kilometers the road reached two thousand meters of altitude above sea level but the landscape was made up of sand hills, ravines of ocher and orange earth and solitary and vibrant horizons due to the haze that seemed to burn at sunset, the best time of day. And no population to get water or food, the loneliness was intense and heartbreaking. On the side of the road, small monuments appeared from time to time in memory of people who had died in traffic accidents, some even had the presence of small booths with photos of the injured and many memories in their memory, a disturbing way of the cross that gave the landscape an overwhelming power.
