The Lehmwohld
The forest area of the Lehmwohld, forest stands in Edendorf, the forest in the districts of Eichtal, Neuhof and Wellenkamp as well as larger contiguous forest areas in the north-east of the city area are owned by the city.
This is a total of 375.60 ha designated as city forest. The adjacent forests of the district of Steinburg with a size of 137.65 ha are also managed by the city forester's office of the city of Itzehoe. These forest areas are surrounded by e.g. T. of forest areas in private ownership. A corresponding map provides information about the ownership structure of the forest areas in the Itzehoe city area.
The long-term and binding management priorities set by the self-government of the city of Itzehoe are:
• Natural reserve
• local recreation
• Forestry
These management priorities are also reflected in the forestry depot for the city's own forest areas. In this work, the silvicultural care and development measures are presented; it serves the work planning of the municipal forest enterprise.
However, forestry is not pursued with the aim of achieving maximum profits, but rather of caring for and developing the forest in such a way that processes are set in motion over decades and that "natural forest management" is possible in the target state and practiced as a permanent form of management can be.
forest visit
Due to forest and nature conservation legislation, visitors to a forest - like that of the city of Itzehoe, which is classified as a local recreation forest - have to pay particular attention to entry bans, e.g. g. in specially protected biotopes. Furthermore, a considerate behavior towards nature, the animals and plants living in it as well as other forest visitors is required. Any form of destruction of nature is prohibited. Dogs are to be kept on a leash. Driving on the paths with motorized vehicles is only permitted for employees of the environmental department, the city forest and the police, fire brigade and rescue services.
In addition to the approx. 28 km long forest, hiking and walking trails, there are two signposted forest walks integrated into them, the beginning and end of which are at the forest car park at the Bismarck Column and the forest car park at Fasanenweg. The forest walk around the Bismarck Column is about 5 km long; in the Pünstorf forest area it is around 7.5 km long.
