Emile Thielens designed these buildings, entrance pavilions, an administration building, Café-restaurant Paon Royal and, a few years later, an entrance to the banquet halls, director's residence and four shop houses, better known as the Dyksterhuis, in collaboration with his then assistant Emiel Van Averbeke, painter-decorator Henri Verbuecken and furniture designers Alban Chambon and Georges Hobé. The style, with ornate ironwork, mosaics, tile panels and carved stonework, is very close to Art Nouveau. During the Second World War and in a fire in 1947, these buildings suffered considerable damage. Of the Art Nouveau interior, only the wood paneling and marquetry door frames of the former salons on the first floor - now the Jacques Kets Room and the Director's Office - have survived. The Beheerraadzaal or Bugatti Room was redecorated in 1953 in Art Deco style.
