Many trees are dead, and clearings in the rows of trees indicate that trees have already been cut down. Much has already been written about the primary cause, the drought of recent years.

It is less well known that insects also play an important role. Weakened trees are sometimes killed by secondary insects that they cannot ward off, which healthy trees often do.
