The NSG Talaue Haus Marck was placed under protection in 2009 and covers around 95 hectares. In the floodplain there are different habitats, such as the Wechter Mühlenbach, the valley floodplain with the typical floodplain forest and the wooded limestone ridge. The valley floodplain lies in a historical cultural landscape, some of which is still traditionally farmed. The beech-forested ridge of the Teutoburg Forest offers, among other things, a habitat for wild garlic, woodruff and wood anemones. In the green areas of the stream valley you can find marsh marigolds and the endangered broad-leaved orchid. The cowslip, which has become rare in North Rhine-Westphalia, can also still be found here. Numerous endangered animal species such as bats, kingfishers, alpine newts and fire salamanders find a natural habitat in the valley floodplain. Information can be obtained from the Steinfurt District Biological Station / Alte Sägemühle Haus Marck Nature Conservation Center.
