The Sahara area lives up to its name: the large sandy plain resembles a miniature desert. But there are also clear blue lakes, heather strips and fragrant coniferous and deciduous forests. The picturesque landscapes and the enormous variety make a walk here a unique experience. Many birds have found a home on and around the water. In winter it is a bivouac for grebes, ducks and swans, among others.

The Sahara is a unique nature reserve in Belgium of about 200 ha.
The bare, desert-like sandy soil is a result of industrial activities and silting up due to the fading vegetation.
From the moment you take one step on the beach you know where the name 'Sahara' comes from.
Enjoy exploring the rough sand barefoot.
However, swimming is prohibited because there may be cold spots in the body of water.
Lounging is allowed…
Up to the ankle and no further…
