The small Kastenalm is located in the picturesque Hinterautal valley in Scharnitz. At 1,220 meters, expansive alpine meadows extend around the traditional wooden hut. Here, you can enjoy delicious Tyrolean snacks with various alpine delicacies and cakes made according to traditional recipes – closed only on Wednesdays. A perfect bike & hike destination, you can cycle from the source of the Isar River to the Kastenalm by (e-)bike and explore the surrounding mountain landscapes (such as Sunntigerspitze, Speckkarspitze, Hallerangerhaus, and Hallerangeralm) on foot. Parking for all types of bikes is available about 100 meters from the hut. Out of respect for the alpine animals, the path from the gate to the hut is exclusively on foot.

STARTING POINT
The ascent to the Kastenalm begins at the Länd parking lot in Scharnitz, where you can choose between a bike (e-)bike or on foot. Those arriving by train or bus can walk 850 meters from the train station to the starting point at the Länd car park, or about 650 meters from the bus stop at the Scharnitz municipal office/information office. From the starting point at the car park, the trail continues through the Hinterautal valley to the idyllic source of the Isar River and further into the valley to the Kastenalm.
