Sorcerer's apprentice
The Berlin artist group Inge's idea lets Oberhausen "outgrow" a power pole in a meadow near Haus Ripshorst, in the truest sense of the word dancing out of line: this thus breaks the line and flees to freedom, yet electrified, as if he himself under power. At the same time, its curved shape depicts a human figure, reminiscent of the called spirit of Goethe's "sorcerer's apprentice," who defies the apprentice's obedience. Provided with unrestrained energy - although without connecting lines - he stands agile in the midst of a green meadow and has escaped his predetermined functionality. The stage for the apostate's dance is located in a region characterized by heavy industry and raises new questions about the future in times of climate change and energy transition, but at the same time inevitably raises memories of the glorious past of the Ruhrgebiet.
With a total height of 35 meters and made of steel profiles, the sculpture is in shape and form based on a conventional power pole. However, all parts are redrawn and made to actually give it the dancing character. Depending on the position of the observer, his shape changes due to the curved shape of the mast, so that his supposed movements become even more impressive. The artist group Inge's idea has become known worldwide in recent years for its symbolic sculptures and installations, which always refer to a concrete context in public space.
