"Den Tuyscher" is a medieval nickname for a Temse resident, specifically a man who plays cards for a fortune. Since many vinegar breweries emerged in this region in the eighteenth century, the nickname "Azijnzeker" (Vinegar Sure) quickly replaced "Tuysscher."
