    According to legend, the Querkela lived in the Quarkloch. To this day, it is not clear whether the Quarkloch is a crevice in the rock or the beginning of a mining tunnel. The entrance is still clearly visible, but after five meters the cave is blocked by rubble and earth. There have been repeated attempts to uncover the cave, but this has not happened to date. The Quarkloch has managed to preserve its mystical existence.

      According to legend, this was a shelter to protect themselves from gangs of robbers, from which the residents of Helmbrecht were able to seek safety. They fled into the Quarkloch with their geese. But because the geese were quacking too loudly, they were driven further into the Quarkloch. When they then ventured out of the hole again, not only the robbers but also the geese had disappeared.

      The residents of Ahornberg were also threatened by the robbers and hid in the church. When they were woken up by the quacking of geese in the night, they were able to chase away a group of robbers before they could set the village on fire. According to legend, there must have been an underground passage from the Quarkloch to Ahornberg.

      The Quarkloch is not directly visible from the path, you have to climb a short hill, but from the path you can see a "Querkel" that marks the Quarkloch. There is also a small signpost at the side of the path.
