"golden boos" Erni, Barbara, called "golden boos", ash
*February 15, 1743 in Altenstadt (Feldkirch, Vorarlberg), † February 26, 1785 in Eschen. Daughter of vagabond Johann and Anna Barbara Graf, two siblings. ⚭ 1779 the vagabond and thief Franz Schindelin, called “Tyrolean Franz”, five children. Erni initially committed small thefts of food and clothes with his siblings, from 1763 larger thefts alone and with accomplices, and prostituted himself. She was wanted by warrants from beyond the region. Erni was arrested in Eschen on May 27, 1784, imprisoned at Vaduz Castle and interrogated several times. She admitted to 17 major and minor thefts. A legal opinion dated December 7, 1784 recommended the death penalty. On February 26th, 1785 Erni was sentenced to death by the court on Rofaberg in Eschen and beheaded on the same day on Güediga in front of a large crowd of spectators; it was the last execution in Liechtenstein.
The fate of Erni was echoed in the song "To Vaduz da lay I captive" and in the legend of the "golden boos" (golden for the red-blond hair color, boos for a slovenly woman, prostitute), to which the street name "Goldene Boos- Gasse» in Eschen.
