"Mill the Great", as it was then called, or after 1884 also "Mill of Piet" (Molen De Groot / Molen van Piet) is one of five mills on the actual urban area of Alkmaar and eight others on the outer. It is a gallery Dutch mill, a typical Dutch town mill, built in 1769 of stone high and slender, as its jewelry sign shows, on the former Clarissenbollwerk on the former Kennemertor (Kennemerpoort). Cornelis Piet bought the mill in 1884 and set up a flat on the ground floor. In 1955, wings with front-end and airbrakes were installed. It has three refineries, the royal wave is an old ship's mast and thus older than the mill itself. For four generations, the family Piet operated the mill, it is still serviced by members of the Piet family, although they belong since decommissioning in 1993 the Alkmarer local government, because So far, she still grinded grain. By city council decision, the old center was declared a restricted traffic zone,

De Molen van Piet is a typical city mill, beautifully situated on the Alkmaarse Singel, where you enter the city via the Kennemerstraatweg. With its majestically rotating wings, the mill attracts all the attention, not only from the residents of Alkmaar itself, but also from the tourists who visit Alkmaar.
The mill was built in 1769 and served as a grain mill from then on.

Molen (windmill) van Piet
This mill can be seen from afar. The Molen van Groot, or as the locals like to call it "Molen van Piet", has belonged to the Piet family for four generations. The miller still grinds grain. From the water you will find the perfect angle for a great photo.
