For the palace gardens, Laves designed a greenhouse, a functional building that had to fit into the overall concept of Derneburg. The greenhouse meets the neoclassical need for flat design very well. Laves constructed an austere three-part building, the only adornment of which is the cast-iron ornamentation of the supporting columns. The fig house was in the western part, the heating system was in the rear central part and the wine house was on the eastern side. The constant use as a greenhouse and the associated repairs and transformations had changed the building over time and made the original unrecognizable.
Only the renovation and conversion to the Derneburg culture and event center allowed the old structure to emerge again.

The glass house has been renovated and is now open again! There are always events taking place. You can enjoy coffee and cake and hearty dishes while sitting comfortably outside on the terrace, for example.
