The fortress is now a recreation area and a non-accessible bat sanctuary. You can walk around the fort moat, visit the fort under supervision and fish on the fort moat. Occasionally there is also a mountain bike race on and around the fort. The guides of the Fort van Kessel guides are happy to give you a tour of the fort. The exhibition "Treasures of the Commander" gives a glimpse into the eventful history of the fortress. An activity can also be booked for children.
Cyclists can discover the fortress together with the Fort van Oelegem and the Fort van 's-Gravenwezel via the route 'Antitankgracht en heide' of the brochure "Herover de Forten". You can draw up your own route thanks to the cycling nodes. The Fort of Kessel is located at junction 76.
You can take a walk in the area on foot thanks to the hiking nodes. The fort is located at junction 67 of the 'Kempense Netevallei' network. From here you can make beautiful walks in a varied environment. The fort is also part of the Groene Halte walk 'Neteland - Kesselse Heide'. This walk takes you through the beautiful Kesselse Heide, and past the fortress of course!
