Musée d’art et d’histoire, Genève
The history of the Musée d'art et d'histoire de Genève is closely linked to the history of the city. It has its roots in the Reformation and has continued to be written since then.
The Museum of Art and History and its collections are notable for having been created by a civil and civic will. The MAH has therefore benefited from donations and bequests that reflect the taste, generosity and curiosity of the city's inhabitants.
With its collections, which have grown through donations and purchases, it tells the story of Geneva and its region, of its artists and craftsmen. The works and objects it preserves also testify to the passion of people central to its history: collectors, archaeologists and travellers. They all share their vision of the world with us through their legacies and help to nourish the spirit of openness and hospitality that is so dear to Geneva.

FOUNDATION OF THE ART SOCIETY
The Société des Arts was founded in 1776 with the aim of contributing to the progress and promotion of crafts, industry, commerce and agriculture in the Republic of Geneva. It is interested in the fine arts and builds up a collection of art objects, paintings, prints and casts from antiquity. It is committed to promoting drawing lessons and regularly organizes important painting salons.
