East of the Oberasbacher districts Altenberg and Unterasbach is the nature reserve Hainberg, with the largest contiguous sandy dry grassland in northern Bavaria.

Through the terrain flows the Kreuzbach, which forms a pear-shaped in the middle of the pond. This small stream is also called Asbach (from which the place name derives) and is located exclusively on Oberasbacher municipality. In the upper part in the second half of the 19th century, heavily straightened and channeled for agriculture, restrained restoration measures since 1990, in the area of Hainberg more natural course with the artificial pond. It ends at the remote bridge between Oberasbach and Nuremberg in the Rednitz.

The Hainberg nature reserve is located on the Rednitz in the area of the cities of Oberasbach and Stein (district of Fürth) and to a small part of the city of Nuremberg. The nature reserve, which is part of the Sandachse Franken nature conservation project, has existed since March 1, 1995[1] and is around 213 hectares[2]. On its site there was previously a training ground for the US Army and the Bundeswehr Transport Battalion 270 stationed in Nuremberg. 195 hectares of the area are therefore managed by the DBU Natural Heritage as a natural heritage area.
