At the initiative of Father Catry, parish priest of Notre-Dame, a sailor's calvary was built on one of the highest dunes.

The materials needed for its construction were carried to the site on the backs of men, sailors, pensioners and even children.

The top of this eleven-metre high cross is thirty-three metres above sea level due to its location on the high dune. At the foot, a sailor and a fisherman say goodbye to their family.

This tribute to the sailors who lost their lives at sea was built on the initiative of Father Catry.

The cross overlooks the sea for over 35 metres.

In addition to the classic Calvary composition, crucifix-on-Golgotha, there is also a statue of a woman surrounded by a sailor and a fisherman saying goodbye before they leave for the long fishing campaigns. This statue symbolises the pain of people and their sacrifices.

Due to its location, the Calvary is a popular place to admire the sunset on the beach on sunny days.

The CALVAIRE DES MARINS found here, a large but simple cross without a corpus, which was dedicated to the sailors who did not return home, can therefore be classified as a memorial cross. The design is surprising, because in this crucifixion group the viewer does not find Mary (the Mother of God) and John (the favorite disciple) under the cross, as would correspond to the biblical tradition. Instead, under the two arms of the cross and directly on the longitudinal beam of the cross, a group of people are depicted, which thematically refer to the title of this "Calvaire des Marins".
