The 15th century Toreken was the guildhall of the skin fatters. The market clock hangs halfway up the tower, at the top of which the mermaid Melusine holds her mirror up to the wind.
Today, the building houses the Poetry Center, the knowledge and expertise center for poetry in Flanders and the Netherlands. Dutch and Dutch-translated poetry, translated Dutch-language poems and South African poetry are central. There is a documentation center, poetry shop and publishing house. The center also publishes a poetry magazine and offers literary programs and educational packages.

The Poetry Center is an information, documentation and study center in Ghent for Dutch-language poetry and foreign-language poetry in Dutch translation. There is also special attention to South African poetry. The center was founded in 1976 by Willy Tiberghien. Wikipedia
