One of the toughest climbs in the Surrey Hills and the whole of the South East of England. It's a long climb with a slight downhill in the middle and saves the hardest section for the final few hundred metres.

Is a bit of an effort getting up this. Starts at the golf course at the gradient sign and once past the last house on the left pushes on to the top. It is a tight slog up the road with a bit of traffic on a rough surface. Hold your line on some of the curves.

be prepared for a long steep ramp. Don't be fooled, when it looks like you're nearly there, it ramps up again.

Don't be fooled by the short downhill section after the first stage of the climb - the worst (or best?!) is yet to come. Gets steeper and steeper towards the top.

There are two 21% signs on Barhatch Lane but it doesn't get properly steep until after the second one and that seems much more than 21%. This is probably THE HARDEST climb in the Southeast of England so only start it you are up for a solid challenge!

I almost chopped this climb out of my ride at the weekend as I wasn’t feeling particularly spectacular and terms like “the hardest climb in the south east” set an expectation. Have to say, it was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. Yes it gets steep towards the end but that part doesn’t last long really. I wouldn’t be concerned doing it again, and that isn’t me being all “I’m great”…just trying to encourage people to have a go. What’s the worst that can happen…?

Certainly the toughest climb on my Tour of the Hills audax, but the steepest section at the end doesn't last too long. I could feel the front wheel starting to lift off the ground though!
