The "New Maxburg" is an architectural icon of post-war modernism and is considered one of the most important buildings from this period. After the war destruction of the old Duke Max castle from the 16./17. Century, was the new building in the 1950s to the plans of Sep Ruf and Theo Pabst. The complex of office and business rooms with courtyard and many passages impresses with its generous, modern openness and refers in many ways to the historical model, in particular to the so-called Renaissance tower, which is left alone and sensitively integrated. Still today a place of pilgrimage for architects and those who want to become one.

Maxburg was the abbreviation for the former Duke Max Castle in Munich, which was originally called the "Wilhelminische Veste". The name comes from Duke Maximilian Philipp, who used it as a residence in the 17th century. It was then used by other members of the Wittelsbach family and by authorities.

After almost complete destruction in World War II, a complex of administrative and commercial buildings was built at the same location in the city center on Lenbachplatz according to a design by the architects Sep Ruf and Theo Pabst. This is called the New Maxburg and integrates the Max Tower as the only surviving element of the fortress. Nationwide, the Neue Maxburg is considered one of the best buildings of 1950s architecture. In 1999 it was placed under monument protection.
