Who doesn't know this: There is a beautiful house in the street, you've walked past it a hundred times and more. But what is hidden behind the facade of the building at Puschkinstrasse 20?

The house is the only one on the street with a gable facing the street. No wonder, since the Grand Duke did not issue the order until the building was already standing to build with the eaves facing the street, primarily for fire safety reasons. The current owner determined that it was most likely built in 1698. This makes it the oldest house in the Schelfstadt and one of the oldest in Schwerin.
Nobody knows who the first owner was. Nor what purpose it served. What is certain is that it became a brewery in the course of the 18th century; Many an old Schwerin resident also knows the half-timbered house as the "old Havemannsche brewery". Beer was once sold here in jugs, which the men sometimes took home with them, but was mostly enjoyed directly in the adjoining guest room in a convivial atmosphere (however, the taproom only opened in the 1880s).
