West of the world's longest castle and Wöhrsee, located on the Eggenberg, the Powder Tower with its mighty, defensive character catches the eye from afar.

A battlement connected the castle complex with the exposed Vorwerk built around 1488. It served with its six gun positions to defend the castle and was therefore built in front of it. Guns and powder were stored in the tower in case of defense.

The mighty castle towers over a kilometer long - exactly 1051 meters - over the listed old town. The families of the Lower Bavarian Dukes of Wittelsbach lived here more than 500 years ago, most recently the Duchess Hedwig, who was famous for the Landshut wedding. Today, the castle is considered the longest castle in the world and home to many castle houses (approx. 200 people live in the castle). There are also three museums and a gallery on the castle grounds. The castle is the namesake and outstanding landmark of the beautiful city - a "kind of city crown and dominant defiance at the same time". On a walk through the six castle courtyards, which are strung together like a pearl necklace, you can feel the medieval flair.
