The Old Great Square is the heart of Turku's historic center and offers visitors the opportunity to admire the beauty of Finland's oldest city. The Old Great Square is internationally known as the place from which Turku proclaims the Christmas Truce.

The Old Great Square area forms the historical center of Turku and is surrounded by historically interesting buildings such as the Brinkkala Mansion and the Old Town Hall.

The Porthaninpuisto Park, which lies between the square and the Uudenmaankatu, is also part of the Old Great Square. Tuomiokirkontori Square is located right next to the Old Big Square, on the other side of the Uudenmaankatu.

The Old Great Square is used as a venue for various types of events: Christmas markets are held in the square during the Christmas season, and the traditional Declaration of Christmas Truce is also held in the square. In midsummer, the square and the adjacent Porthaninpuisto Park are taken over by the medieval market. The square has also hosted various gastronomic events and a microbrewery festival.
