The building at Prinsens Port was originally half-timbered. It was built into the foundation wall in 1735 and still stands today, albeit in a modified and reduced form.

During the construction of Danmarks Ports in 1924, the building had to be shortened. The main guard was abolished in 1934.

The Old Main Guardhouse in Fredericia is a historic building that originally served as a guardhouse for the garrison. Built in 1735, it was one of several guardhouses in the city. It was originally constructed of timber framing, but was later rebuilt and shortened when Denmark's Port was built in 1925.

The building also used to house military prison cells, recognizable by the iron awnings over the small windows. Guard duty was actively carried out here until 1934, before the Main Guardhouse was officially abolished. Today, the building belongs to the Ministry of Defense and is used as a conference room and lounge for officers.

During the annual July 6 celebrations commemorating the Battle of Fredericia, soldiers wear historical uniforms and once again stand guard at the old guard posts.
