The column was erected in 1725 on the market square opposite the town hall. It consists of Hilbersdorf porphyry tuff. In 1966 it was so desolate that a copy was made by the Frankenberg sculptor H. Thiel, which was unveiled on October 2, 1969.

For the erection of the market fountain around 1820, the column had to vacate its place. In 1966 it was so desolate that a copy was made by the Frankenberg sculptor H. Thiel, which was unveiled on October 2, 1969. The Frankenberg post milestone must have been erected in 1725. Around 1820, due to lack of space, the milestone was moved to Altenhainer Straße. After it again became an obstruction there, it was relocated to its current location on the church square in 1871. The condition of this technical-historical monument deteriorated increasingly during the 1960s. In 1969, the Frankenberg sculptor Hermann Thiel Jr. created a faithful replica of the historic post milestone at his own expense. It stood on the church square until 1973, when it was returned to its original location on the Frankenberg market square.
