Coming from La Aldea de San Nicolas, you first climb two dams.

Then you come to the intersection shown in the picture. Here the path forks: to the right leads to the Valley of Tears, and to the left continues to the high plateau.

I chose the latter option because of the longer return to Agaete.

I was very happy with my choice. After the fork, there is a longer climb; the asphalt was still very rough at the beginning. The following switchbacks were also mostly on rather rough asphalt in March 2025, if I remember correctly.

The road surface improved later on, however, and is in any case very rideable even with a road bike.

By the way, there is a chapel at the high plateau, but I didn't look at it.
