The N19g (north-south connection between Kasterlee and Geel) literally cuts the nature reserve in two. At the most critical point, the government has opted for a 500-metre long tunnel, which has been replanted with low shrubs and heather after the works have been completed. They also installed 'hop-overs' for bats. Trees have been planted around the tunnel mouths. The project aims to integrate the new road as much as possible with the surrounding nature.
Unfortunately, the latter has not turned out to be a great success to date.
