In 1802, Schiller and his family moved into a house on the Esplanade that was built in 1777. He had it remodeled and after his death in 1805, his wife lived there until 1826. In 1847, the city of Weimar acquired the building, opened the first poet's memorial in Germany and in 1988 combined it with a new museum building, which now shows temporary exhibitions.

      Schiller House and Museum, Weimar
Friedrich Schiller spent the last three years of his life and work in the house on the Esplanade. The great dramas “The Bride of Messina” and “William Tell” were written here before the poet died in his study in 1805. The original desk and Schiller’s bed can still be seen there today.

Anyone who is looking for a classic gauge, and met Goethe everywhere and discovered Herder, should also make a detour to the Schiller.

Friedrich Schiller purchased the house, built in 1777, on what is now Schillerstrasse in 1802 for himself and his family. He had to go into debt to raise the required purchase price. The family lived in the house until Charlotte von Schiller's death in 1826. In 1847 it became municipal property and in the same year became the first publicly accessible memorial to a poet in Germany. In 1945 it was badly damaged by a bomb attack, but reopened in 1946.
The furnishings combine authentic legacy items with analogous additions and contemporary interiors. It allows visitors to vividly experience the taste of the time, living conditions and the atmosphere of work, living and household life in Schiller's house.
The study, with its largely original furnishings, is the most authentic and most important room in the house. The poet completed his dramas "The Bride of Messina" and "William Tell" in this room. His last piece, "Demetrius," remained a fragment.
Schiller's house is in the same building complex as the Schiller Museum.

From 1802 to 1805, J. C. Friedrich Schiller lived in this house on what was then the Esplanade. It is also the house where Schiller died (May 9, 1805).
The esplanade that runs past it is now called Schillerstrasse. It was only built a few decades before Schiller bought the house, when the city fortifications were demolished in 1760-1765.
