Impressive building with a mighty entrance. Very nicely laid out. First impression was that it is probably an important state building, until we realized that it is a hotel. Certainly nothing for the small purse.

Built in 1753 based on plans and elevations by Jacques Hardouin-Mansart de Sagonne, the Hôtel-Dieu de Marseille is a former Marseille hospital located in the Panier district. During the 2013 Marseille-Provence festivities, the Hôtel-Dieu was transformed into a 5-star hotel, managed by the British hotel group InterContinental under the name InterContinental Marseille Hotel Dieu. The hospital's renovation into a hotel was completed in 2013. It is served by the Vieux-Port station of the Marseille metro. Next to the staircase of the former Hôtel-Dieu is the Memorial to the Deportation and Internment of January 23, 1943.
