"Since its opening in 2001, the house has evolved into a living theater house with a great responsibility for the cultural education and social interaction of people of different ages and backgrounds. The often awarded productions of the Consol Theater deal specifically with the realities of life of the mostly young audience.

Each season, the theater develops about three new productions for different age groups. As part of the »Volxbühne«, the Consol Theater also realizes artistic projects with amateurs.

The Consol Theater is part of the »kultur.gebiet CONSOL« on the former colliery Consolidation in Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck. Next to the theater there are other cultural institutions such as the Consol 4 music rehearsal center. The northern engine house houses the art installation Werner Thiel Collection, the southern engine house is dedicated to a small permanent exhibition of mining history. The adjoining Consol.Park is a popular meeting point for sports enthusiasts with its beach volleyball field, skate park and inline hockey field.
