"The former Schachtanlage Holland 3/4/6 in Wattenscheid has an architectural peculiarity: the chewing and administration building from 1921 is the oldest surviving work of the style-defining industrial architects Fritz Schupp and Martin Kremmer, who grouped the brick buildings as a three-winged complex around one Courtyard and designed the buildings in the tradition of neoclassicism.

The entire plant Holland 3/4/6 comes from the second major start-up phase of mining after the German-French War. In 1872, as a supplement to the end of the 1850s, Schacht Schacht 1/2 1/2, which was built directly behind the city limits of Gelsenkirchen-Ückendorf, was mined in 1880. Two years later, the new mine received a coking plant with the first by-product extraction plant for the separation of ammonia and tar in Germany. In 1900, Schacht 4 followed, shortly thereafter the Wetterschacht 5 and in the 1920s Schacht 6 as the new main production shaft. From the 1950s to the final decommissioning in 1983, the mine was of particular importance as a central production site for a network of various coal mines and minefields in Gelsenkirchen and Essen. The interim name "Holland / Rheinelbe-Alma" refers to this situation. Also, the nacelle of shaft 6 is preserved and restored as the conveyor frame of shaft 4. The German struts scaffold with the name "Holland" also comes from the pen of Schupp and Kremmer, but was initially in Essen on Schacht Zollverein 4 and only reached the end of the 1950s to Wattenscheid. The other day facilities were demolished after the operational task in the late 1980s. Today, the administrative and chewing building houses the TGW technology and start-up center Wattenscheid.
